This is a great breakfast. You really don’t need to serve anything else with it, so filling. My momma made this a lot but I have changed the recipe up a little. I like using molasses, not everybody likes the taste of molasses, so use a thick butter flavor syrup. Try topping the bread with peanut butter and jelly, or fresh berries with a drizzle of honey to finish before serving. Delicious!
Texas Toast
1/3 cup flour
1 tablespoon sugar
Dash salt
2 eggs beaten till light and creamy
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cinnamon ( optional)
Butter
1/2 cup milk approximately
Beat the eggs till light and creamy, add vanilla and milk. To this mixture add remaining ingredients except for the bread. Mix till smooth. You don’t want it to be to thick or to thin. If to thick add more milk. If to thin you can add more flour. In pre heated skillet add enough # butter Crisco to fry the bread. Dip the bread in mix let excess drip off. Place bread in skillet. Add a sprinkle of common on each slice of bread ( optional). Cook bread till golden brown turning one time. Remove from skillet add a pat of butter and syrup. Enjoy!

Good stuff
