Another rainy day today. Great day to spend in the kitchen. School is starting for several schools in our area. Time to think of those morning breakfasts and after school snacks for the kiddos. How about serving a bowl of hot porridge. You can make the porridge sweet and fruity or savory. Easy to make. When my kids were small trying to get them to try something new, or to eat something the really didn’t care for, if I could tell a story that was associated with the food they would eat it. For example, the porridge, the story of the three bears. Worked every time. Lol. Buttermilk pancakes are a good morning starter. Try making the pancakes into different shapes, make a bear face, add chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth. A happy face, using banana slices for the eyes chocolate chips for the smile. Make the foods interesting. For after school snacks, a fruity smoothie, maybe a frozen fruit bars, cube cheese with crackers, there are so many cute shapes of savory crackers as well as sweet ones. Chop up fruits and serve with homemade dip, a veggie plate with fresh vegetables and dip. I love pickled pigs feet served with crackers. You can easily find them at most markets. Trying something new is sometimes a challenge. But I find that finding a recipe and adding some of the ingredients I like helps. I like beef liver and onions. I use the thin sliced liver, it makes a difference. I will be sharing my recipe. The week end is here already. I will be sharing time with family, and always food. Great time together. Enjoy your day. Till we visit again, let’s cook..Jeri
