Morning y’all. I trust you had a great week end, I sure did. I’m wondering how many of yins have ever cooked on a wood cook stove? Here is a picture of my stove that I had, and my late brother. He loved coming to my house on holidays, it seemed like we all gathered in the kitchen by the old cook stove. This picture shows the warming ovens on top, you could put your biscuits, pancakes or anything you wanted to keep warm up there,on the left hand side down by the cooking area, of the stove was a water resevoir, just filled it with water and there was plenty of hot water when needed in cooking. The resevoir set next to the fire box. That’s what heated the water. The main oven was big. You could fit a 20-25 pound turkey in there with plenty of room. The stove top was cast iron, you could take the cast iron plates off and move the wood around to make it hotter or spread it out for cooler temp. You could remove the plate and cook hot dogs or roast marshmallows which the grans enjoyed doing. The top of the stove burners were seasoned just like your cast iron skillets. You would season it good if you were going on vacation or not going to be using it for awhile. You could smell bacon the minute you got a fire going. Aww so nice. There was 6 large areas to cook on then on the right side of the cooking area was 2 more places you could cook on or just to keep something cooking at a lower heat. There was enough room on the cooking surface to cook everything at the same time. The oven door had a temperature gage. That was nice. I think probably went up to 500 degrees. Can’t really remember. I sure miss cooking on that old stove. When I first bought it everybody thought I was crazy, but after eating a couple meals cooked on it they changed their minds. Especially the ham n beans and biscuits. Lol. Enjoy your day! Let’s cook…Jeri
